My Year with “Ryan” Secrest

by Veronica

Let’s go back…circa 2023. I’m employed at the bank again, back to where it all started.

This time around I was a very part time teller and despite what I originally thought, I hated it. I went from having complete autonomy over my work to being what felt like, micromanaged and I was barely even there. My co-worker told me that there was a banker position opening up and encouraged me to apply; I declined-been there, done that and that would require me to become full time, no thank you. Then came that day, the day I could barely remember except for that one moment…

It was a mundane day, nothing out of the ordinary but our DM was coming in-it was interview time. Before the interviews started, there was a conversation about one candidate (possibly the only one). Turns out he worked at another branch and wanted something closer to home. Cool, I guess-but then time suddenly became slower, there he was walking, or should I say strutting in making his presence known. I examine the “competition” (even though I had no intention of applying) and proceed to make my very bold remarks; the teller line was always the best place to gossip. It was nice to have eye candy, even if it was just for a minute or two. In he came and out he went. As he walked out I asked if we’ll ever see him again but didn’t get a response. Little did I know what the next few months had in store for me or how the twists and turns of life caused me to be here, meeting you-”Ryan” Secrest.

Fast forward a bit and well he’s hired and he’s on the schedule and we’re all getting introductory information on this mysterious new banker. Turns out, he’s not horrible; vet turned mortgage processor that unfortunately got stuck with a customer facing role at the bank and he doesn’t show face after being scheduled-what a great hire!

It was January 20th, 2024 and I was scheduled to open on a Saturday, FML. As I sit in my car observing my co-worker open the branch there’s this obnoxious truck parked to the right of me and all I could think was how I wish it would disappear but alas it didn’t. As I make my way into the branch, there’s this guy following me and then walking inside with me…I then put two and two together and realized this was the no show banker! As I try to befriend him, I get silenced by our other co-worker and the day went on. No interaction, the day was over and I had a hair appointment.
